Agent Connect: use Claude or ChatGPT with your RevvFi books

Agent Connect is RevvFi's hosted MCP server. Connect it once and your AI assistant can answer questions from your real numbers, flag what needs attention, and draft invoices and quotes that wait for your approval in RevvFi.

Updated October 9, 2026Server: https://mcp.getrevvapp.com/mcp

What it does and who it's for

Agent Connect lets an AI assistant you already use (Claude, ChatGPT, or Claude Code) talk to your RevvFi account through the open Model Context Protocol. Once connected, you can ask things like "how much did I spend on software this quarter?", "which invoices are overdue?", or "look over September's books and tell me what looks off", and the assistant answers from RevvFi's own records and totals rather than guessing.

It is built for RevvFi subscribers who work for themselves and already keep their books in RevvFi. You need an active RevvFi subscription or trial. Reading your books works on every plan. Drafting (invoices, quotes, and category suggestions) is part of RevvFi Pro.

Three things an assistant can never doSend an invoice or email a client, move money, or change an amount or a date. Those stay in your hands inside the RevvFi app.

How to connect

You connect from the assistant's side. RevvFi's server address is the same everywhere:

https://mcp.getrevvapp.com/mcp

The RevvFi app shows the same address with a Copy button under Settings → Connected assistants while nothing is connected yet.

Claude (web and desktop)

  1. Open Customize → Connectors in Claude.
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it RevvFi, paste the server address above, and click Continue. Claude detects that the server uses OAuth; keep that setting.
  4. Click Add. When you choose to sign in, Claude opens RevvFi's consent page in your browser (step by step below).
  5. In a conversation, click +, then Connectors, and switch RevvFi on.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan an Owner adds the connector under Organization settings → Connectors, and each member then clicks Connect on it. Anthropic's own guide is at support.claude.com.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http revvfi https://mcp.getrevvapp.com/mcp

Then run /mcp inside a session (or claude mcp login revvfi from your shell) and finish the sign-in in your browser.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds custom MCP servers through its developer mode, which OpenAI has moved around during 2026. These are the steps from OpenAI's help center at the time of writing; if your menus differ, follow OpenAI's current article.

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. On a Business workspace an admin has to enable it for themselves first; on Enterprise and Edu an admin grants it under Permissions & Roles → Connected Data.
  2. Go to Settings → Apps and click Create.
  3. Name it RevvFi, add a short description, paste the server address, and choose OAuth as the authentication method.
  4. Click Scan Tools. ChatGPT sends you to RevvFi's consent page; finish it, then wait for the scan and click Create.
  5. Start a new chat and pick the RevvFi app, or just mention it in your prompt. ChatGPT asks you to confirm before it runs anything that changes your books.
Which plans can add custom connectors? That is set by Anthropic and OpenAI, not by RevvFi. At the time of writing Claude allows custom connectors on every plan (Free is limited to one). ChatGPT limits full custom MCP apps to Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces; Pro users can connect read-only tools in developer mode, and Free cannot. Check their help pages for the current rule.

Whichever assistant you use, the sign-in lands on app.getrevvapp.com/connect:

  1. Sign in to RevvFi. The consent page always asks for a fresh sign-in, even if you are already logged in. The approval has to happen within ten minutes of that sign-in.
  2. Check who is asking. The page names the app and shows Verified app for Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT. Any other app shows "RevvFi doesn't recognize this app." You can still approve it, but only do so if you set it up yourself.
  3. Pick which books. Normally that is your own account. If a business partner shares a business with you on RevvFi, you can connect the assistant to that shared business instead.
  4. Choose permissions. They are grouped as It can see, It can change, and you can undo, and It can draft, for you to approve. The "see" and "draft" boxes start ticked; the "change" box always starts unticked. Untick anything you do not want.
  5. Allow. The button unlocks after the page has been on screen for two seconds and at least one permission is ticked. Cancel sends the assistant an error and grants nothing.

Authentication and scopes

Agent Connect uses standard OAuth 2.0 authorization code flow with PKCE (S256). There are no API keys to copy. Assistants register themselves as public clients: Claude and ChatGPT identify with a client metadata document, and other clients use dynamic client registration. RevvFi's authorization server advertises everything a client needs at https://mcp.getrevvapp.com/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server.

The nine scopes

Each scope is one checkbox on the consent page and one toggle in the app afterwards. The label column is the wording you will see.

ScopeLabel on the consent pageGroupPlan

tax:readYour tax numbers and settingsIt can seeAny (own books only)

On an account without RevvFi Pro the three draft scopes appear greyed out with "Included with RevvFi Pro" and are never granted, even if the assistant asked for them. On a connection to a partner's shared business, tax:read is never granted because tax settings belong to the account owner.

Every tool, and what it does

An assistant only sees the tools its permissions allow, and RevvFi re-checks the permission on every single call. Tools are tagged Read (never changes anything), Draft (creates something for you to approve), or Change (applies right away, with Undo).

ToolKindScopeWhat it does
get_books_overviewReadbooks:readThe assistant is told to call this first. Lists your businesses, linked account names, how many transactions need review this year, and what this connection is allowed to do.
list_transactionsReadbooks:readLists or totals transactions with filters (dates, business, category, business/personal). Returns RevvFi's own totals so the assistant does not re-add a truncated list.
review_booksReadbooks:readA read-only once-over of a period: uncategorized transactions, likely duplicates, business expenses with no receipt, business expenses that look personal, and deposits not matched to income.
get_mileage_summaryReadmileage:readLogged miles and the mileage deduction for a period, using the IRS rate in effect on each trip's date.
search_receiptsReadreceipts:readSearches saved receipts by merchant, date or amount and returns what RevvFi extracted plus the attached transaction. Receipt images are never returned.
list_invoicesReadinvoices:readYour invoices with status and amounts. "Overdue" means sent, unpaid and past the due date.
get_invoice_statusReadinvoices:readOne invoice's status, amounts, dates and reminder history.
get_tax_summaryReadtax:readRevvFi's computed tax picture for a year: business income, deductions by category and Schedule C line, mileage and home office, the tax set-aside target, and quarterly estimated payment status. Estimates, not advice. Own books only.
suggest_categorizationDrafttransactions:suggestProposes category or business/personal changes for one or more transactions as a suggestion in your Review Queue. Nothing changes until you approve it. Pro
draft_invoiceDraftinvoices:draftCreates a draft invoice in your Review Queue. No email goes to the client and no payment can be collected until you approve it. The assistant cannot edit, approve or send a draft once created. Pro
draft_quoteDraftquotes:draftCreates a draft quote in your Review Queue. Nothing reaches the client until you approve it. Pro
update_transactionsChangetransactions:editSets the category, business or personal, and which business for up to 50 transactions and applies it right away. Never amounts or dates. Every change is logged and you can undo it in the app under Review Queue → History.
delete_transactionsChangetransactions:editDeletes up to 25 transactions right away, for example duplicates or test entries. Transfers between your own accounts can never be deleted. Undo in Review Queue → History puts them back exactly as they were.

Resources and prompts

Alongside tools, the server exposes four read-only resources and five ready-made prompts.

ResourceScopeContents
revvfi://categoriesbooks:readRevvFi's display categories grouped by bucket, with the default deductible percent for the current tax year. Assistants must use these names exactly.
revvfi://clientsinvoices:readYour invoicing clients by name and id. Contact details are never included.
revvfi://books/summary/current-yearbooks:readYear-to-date income, spending and deductible totals, the top five spending categories, and the review count.
revvfi://tax/settingstax:readTax year, filing status, dependents, set-aside mode and vehicle deduction method. Own books only.

Draft-only by design

Agent Connect was built so that an assistant can be useful without ever being able to act on your behalf. The rules are enforced by RevvFi's server on every call, not by the assistant's good behaviour.

You will know when something is waitingRevvFi sends a push notification ("Assistant drafts to review") when an assistant creates a draft or applies a change, and an email if a draft has waited a day. Both can be turned off under Settings → Notifications.

Security and privacy

Managing connections in the app

Open the RevvFi app and go to Settings → Connected assistants. Each connection shows its name, which books it can see, its permissions as plain-language chips, when it was connected and last used, and what it last did.

The web app at app.getrevvapp.com hosts the consent page and the Review Queue; managing connections themselves is done in the phone app.

FAQ

Why does my assistant say drafting is not available?

Drafting invoices, quotes and category suggestions is part of RevvFi Pro. On the standard plan the assistant can read everything and, if you allow it, change categories. Upgrade from Settings → Subscription in the app (or Settings on the web app if you pay through Stripe), then reconnect from your assistant so the draft scopes can be granted.

It says "The user has not granted this assistant the … permission."

You unticked that scope at consent, or removed it later. Open Settings → Connected assistants, tap the permissions, and switch it on. Widening permissions asks you to sign in again.

Why does the assistant keep asking which business?

By design. If you have more than one business, the assistant is instructed to ask before answering a question about one of them and never to mix businesses in one answer without saying so.

Can my accountant connect an assistant to my books?

No. Agent Connect is for the account owner and for business partners you share a business with. Your accountant works in the CPA portal instead.

Does the assistant see my bank password?

No. RevvFi itself never has it; Plaid holds the bank connection. The assistant sees transactions, not credentials.

I got "Too many requests."

The connection hit 60 calls in a minute or 20 drafts in a day. Wait a minute, or until midnight UTC for the daily limit.

The consent page says the request has expired.

Authorization requests last ten minutes. Start again from the assistant.

Are the tax numbers it quotes correct?

They are RevvFi's estimates, the same ones you see in the app, and the assistant is told to say so. They are not tax advice and not a filed return. Confirm with a tax professional before acting on them.

Can I build my own client?

Yes. The server speaks standard MCP over Streamable HTTP with JSON responses and uses OAuth 2.0 with dynamic client registration, so any compliant MCP client can connect. Start at https://mcp.getrevvapp.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource. Clients other than Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT show as unrecognized on the consent page, which is expected.
