Setting it up
The Home Deduction screen appears during onboarding and later from the Deductions screen's Finish your home-office setup reminder. It starts with Do you work from home? and then asks for:
- Office sq ft: space used regularly and exclusively for work, plus any storage area for business.
- Total home sq ft, and whether you rent or own.
- Owners: what you paid for the home, land value, mortgage interest and property tax this year. Renters: monthly rent.
- Everyone: utilities, internet, and renters or homeowners insurance.
- Since when this year, and which business.
How the estimate is computed
Business percentage = (office + storage square feet) ÷ home square feet. RevvFi applies that share to your housing costs using the actual-expense method, in the shape of Form 8829 (home depreciation over 39 years for owners). The preview shows so far this year and for the full year.
- The deduction can never exceed your business profit for the year.
- If a housing bill (rent, utilities, internet, insurance) already shows up in your bank transactions, RevvFi uses those real amounts instead of the figures you typed.
Where it shows
The Deductions screen has a Home office row, the Deductions PDF has a Business use of home block, and the Export tax records Excel file has a Home Office sheet with the inputs, so your accountant can check the math.
